Just an ordinary 12-year-old boy – not even a very admirable one – Greg Heffley has somehow become the $500m kid. The simple line-drawn star of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series has made his author, Jeff Kinney, £11m and is the keystone of a global empire of books, movie adaptations and merchandise worth in excess of half a billion dollars (£325m).
