Horrific executions resurface in South African vigilante killings

The practice of “necklacing”, used to kill suspected police informers during the anti-apartheid struggle, seemed to have disappeared in democratic South Africa. Then images surfaced earlier this year, showing suspected criminals in Khayelitsha with tyres around their necks, doused in petrol and about to be set alight by an angry mob.
