95 child deaths due to neglect - is Massachusetts failing vulnerable children?

Spare Change News - USA 28 April 2019

In Massachusetts, USA, five year old Jeremiah Oliver was recently found dead after going missing almost one year ago, a case that prompted extensive media coverage. But was this high profile death just the tip of an iceberg? An investigation by New England Center for Investigative Reporting (NECIR) found that more than 95 Massachusetts children, whose cases were handled by social workers, have died due to abuse or neglect between 2001 and 2011. The majority of these children died anonymously within their first year. Unlike the case of Jeremiah Oliver, there was little media coverage over these deaths and their names are not widely known.
