Food stamp cuts hit 47 million struggling Americans

More than 47 million of America’s poorest people will face cuts to their food stamp benefits in January as temporary funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) expires. SNAP was introduced in 2009 to help combat the devastating effects of the recession but people continue to go hungry to this day ahead of the new 5 per cent cut.
