Only citizens can stop threat of nuclear power stations in Japan

In August, the Sendai nuclear plant in southern Japan became the first plant to begin operations since the 2011 Fukushima meltdowns, despite anti-nuclear protests. But the safety risks that come with ageing plants are raising widespread concern. The decision to bring Japan’s nuclear reactors back online does not reflect the lessons we have learned from Fukushima, in terms of safety, says Hiromitsu Ino, a former Tokyo University professor and specialist in metallic material engineering. (1577 Words) - By Rie Matsuoka
