The Big Issue UK 11 May 2019

Puppeteer Caroll Spinney is the man behind Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, stars of long-running, globally successful children’s television show Sesame Street. Now aged 81, he continues to perform as the eight-foot two-inch tall bird who has become a global icon, and made Spinney’s life quite remarkable. He has sung with Johnny Cash, learned the alphabet with Michael Jackson and promoted healthy eating with Michelle Obama. As a documentary about the man in the big yellow suit hits cinemas, Spinney speaks to The Big Issue UK about singing with superstars, meeting first ladies and promoting racial harmony. (1272 Words) - By Steven Mackenzie
