Breaking the cycle of abuse: “We have to get serious about not accepting domestic violence”

Oklahoma ranks third in the US for the number of women killed by men, according to the Violence Policy Center. In a startling 97% of these cases the woman knew her murderer; 61% of the women were wives, common-law wives, ex-wives or girlfriends of the offenders. Kristie Mitchell from the YWCA – an organization providing help and hope to victims of domestic violence in Oklahoma – explains why state methods for dealing with abuse victims need to change.
